(Berkeley, California – April 12, 2011) – LIVE OAK PARK FAIR is a highly anticipated free event featuring over 100 high caliber artists and craftspeople from around the Western States, showcasing affordable contemporary art, fine crafts, handcrafted jewelry & accessories, couture & kids’ clothing, handmade quilts, as well as sculptural and functional objects in clay, fiber, glass, metal and wood. This family-friendly fair also offers delicious food and drink in a comfortable seating area, with live music both days.

Live Oak Park Fair strives to celebrate cultural diversity through artistic creativity, and this year’s fair highlights Eastern and Western sensibilities expressed in work by those whose heritage spans the Asian Pacific Islands and beyond, featuring five Japanese-heritage exhibitors: Yoshiko Yamamoto, Reiko Miyagi, Hitomi Jacobs, Waka Ozawa, and Shizuko & Toshi Shichishima.

Producer Jan Etre is in her 24th year with Live Oak Park Fair: “I am gratified to welcome back our evolving family of long-time exhibitors as well those new to the event, who will be featuring such unusual wares as traditional Nantucket baskets, hand-made artisan chocolates, and couture clothing made from repurposed fabrics.” Jan finds great satisfaction in bringing artists and the public together in this natural setting, “where children and adults alike can find inspiration and appreciation for the functional and the beautiful.”

Live Oak Park Fair takes place in a verdant 5 ½ acre historic park that features heritage oaks, redwoods, and one of Berkeley’s finest, preserved waterways: meandering Codornices Creek. The many paved pathways throughout the park allow for easy wheelchair and stroller access. Just as Live Oak Park Fair celebrates its 41st birthday this June, Berkeley’s historic Live Oak Park, founded in 1916, begins the countdown to its glorious centennial!
